Hello,

Do any of you have experience with dropped pedal bones?

I have a horse who has 1mm between the sole and the bone (x-ray determined he is toe down). He also has an abcess, i poulticed the abcess, went to change the poultice and there's a cream colour what looks like jelly lump. Could the lintex have drawn the pedal bone through the sole or do you think it is a sac of infection that i will need to puncture?

Also is the pedal bone hard bone or a funny consistency?

Thankyou in advance

p.s. i didnt re-oultice it, ive just bandaged it heavily and put a hoof boot on (vets orders about the hoof boot)

I'd be putting imprints on.

And getting the vet out also as I wouldn't have a clue. I freaked out with our old HW with lami that that happened to also. I thought his bone was bulging through one morning....but it was just new white hoof.

What are you feeding him?

My own horse with very thin soles, but not as thin as yours, could not tolerate sugar of any kind, especially not in grass. I had to remove him from grazing completely before he would grow soles thick enough to walk on.

I'm afraid I'd have got the vet out straight away if I wasn't sure! If there's the slightest chance it's bone then he needs immediate treatment. I really hope it's just sole.
