Hi, can anyone give any advice on groundwork. Im struggling to train a young horse to move over when i groom her. I tried pressing my hand against her side and saying "over"..she didnt understand and just leant and pushed against me even harder..i then tried poking her with my finger and saying "over" and she crushed me up the fence. Any help would be appreciated..she is a very clever horse..and i think when she understands what i want her to do she'll do it. Thank you!

With mine I nudge her with my hand where my leg would go if I were riding (so the aid is in the same place). I don't just push and wait as I'm sure I'd make a v good prop! A horse will lean into constant pressure not give to it. I just nudge and say 'over' and nudge again until she shifts. Didn't take my bargy mare long to learn it, though still if she would rather not move she does try to out stubborn you! I just keep the nudges irritating and clearly ask for 'over' (ask like you expect it not like it's a question and make sure your body language mirrors this) then she steps over v nicely and if I want another step I just ask for over again and she obliges!

try turning her head into you and then keep pokeing with you finger, long nails help!, and back it up with the voice command OVER, she will soon get the hang of what you asking her ,,good luck
