I have just hogged my lw cob. I hogged him last year due to very bad sweetictch. Have managed to keep some mane and tail this year but he has rubbed very badly over last couple of days so took it all off today for his comfort more than looks. But I do like him hogged.

The mane looks ok but I cant sem to get the tail looking right

How do you do yours and tips

I have never heard of hogging the tail...

I hog G's mane as he also gets sweet itch, but then I use a fly mask/rug/spray to protect from irritants and killitch on the mane and tail. The killitch works wonders, even on our friend's horse who gets really bad sweet itch (G's is mild).

I would hog the mane and maybe trim the tail and try out different products such as sw.itch and killitch.

Do not hog a tail, tails can be pulled, and perhaps this is what you mean.

I would recommend a tail rake for this for your safety and your horse's comfort.

You don't 'hog' the tail, but you can pull/clip and trim it.

I use clippers on the top of his tail, and trim the bottom of it with scissors downwards.

I also love the hogged and clipped out look for my cob

Clipping the tail often looks awful (sorry), and grows out to look like a loo brush. Pulling gives the most natural look, followed by a tail rake/comb.

It sounds like you've already clipped his tail. If you have, I'd trim it with thinning scissors while you need it looking smart, then when you can, grow it out so it's an inch or 2 long and pull or rake it to get it looking really smart.
