Could you try Danilon? Danilon is practically the same as bute (pain killer, anti inflammatory etc) but much more palatable apparently and more gentle on the digestive system.

Only other suggestion I can think of is garlic- might be string enough to mask it?

Apparently putting the bute in a freezer for a few hours is meant to help make it more palatable. Also try mixing the bute into apple puree and then mixing the puree into the feed.

as lucy_spring and i found when attempting to get aran to eat 36 massive tables /day:
jam/treacle sandwiches - messy and we couldnt get enough powder per sarnie
mint cordial - messy (lucys coat will testify!!) - too liquidy and we got coated
apple-puree - fantastic - not as messy and i could hide volumes of powder in a smallish amount of puree and then syringe it down. he didnt mind as he liked the taste and it was thick enough that it was easier to prevent him covering me!

oh the joys - never ever again - i'd have paid to see the vet try - it was almost a sketch from monty python!

I've given up on trying to give my horse powdered bute. He just refuses to eat it.
I now buy Equipalizone paste that comes in a syringe. The only problem is that it is quite pricey and probably wouldnt be a long term option.

Put some water into a syringe, then put the bute in, then squirt it down him.

That is my preferred way.

Mine won't eat any sort of bute apart from Danilon, so far so good with that. I had the syringe stuff, but it seemed to end up everywhere apart from whre it should have!

Mix bute powder in with icing sugar, add water to make paste, put in syringe and squirt in ??

The Equipalazone paste has same consistency I think.

I had fat Shetland who would eat anything including bute in feed.

However other ned can sniff bute and vets from 100 yards. I could get paste in mouth - just - so long as somebody could hold him so I could aim it in !!!! Mind you, he is same with wormer in mouth - two person job.

In my experience no horse will eat bute!! However having had a "long term bute user!" I always made polo gravy. Used polo gravy with a very small feed and bobs ur uncle. Another thing that helps when you run out of polos is pasture mix and a bit of boiling water - just enough to take the bute - and then it smells all herbie i guess. Obviously you feed it warm not hot
