hi, i am looking to start hunting soon with my youngester. i would really appreciate and advice given - please no comments on your opinion about fox hunting-.
Im only 14 and im not sure what to wear or what i my horse should have on. me and my mum are going as foot followers to start and see if it is the right hunt for us or not. i know you have to wear a jacket, beige jods, long riding boots, stock, my horse will need her breastplate and plain tack. Apart from this i have no clue what i need, does my mare need boots? and what colour jacket do i need to wear??

And any tips would be brill!! :)
thanks so much
Abbie

P.S again i do not want any comments on fox hunting laws or weather or not it should be banned etc

You'll enjoy it!- and tweed jacket, shirt, tie or stock, cream jodhs, long riding boots or short with black chaps!:) and if your horse is novice the put green tape in her tail as to show others she is inexperienced to this :) Its all about having fun! x

As long as you are smart, clean and tidy no one will mind!

I would recommend a neck strap! An old stirrup leather is best. Boots I would generally say not unless your horse is really bad for knocking herself, as they often slip or rub, or at best get lost!

Pick a brown or black numnah, and make sure you remember a hairnet!

Most of all smile, chat to people and enjoy yourself. Most people are very welcoming, we all had a first day at some point!

All the above advise is great but don't forget to plait up your mare and be as smart as possible, everything very clean even though it wont be at the end of the day! You may want to travel her tacked up so it is easier when you arrive, just keep a rug over her saddle. Also NO bling! Don't give your horse a big feed before you go as you really don't want extra energy especially if you take her out again as she will have got the idea by then, don't worry about her being tired, that is better than uncontrollable and you can always come come early. Also make sure you take good care of her when you get home, brush her down well and give her some electrolytes/salt in her tea and check her legs especially if you have been jumping for small cuts/thorns etc. Also the day after if possible turn her out or at least give her a good walk as you dont want her tying up or becoming stiff. Most of all have a great time and dont be afraid of asking for advice on the day :)

Another vote for contacting the secretary for advice as they will help you pick the right sort of meet for you & your horse eg woodland for a cob or open country for a TB so its not too hard on either of you :)

If you follow on foot you will also see what everyone is wearing etc, when you following dress warm layers as you might be moving alot or stood still so you can add/take them off as needed and wellies a deffo lol
