Hello!

I have recently moved house which we are very lucky to have 3 acres with it. However, this land has never been used for horses so there is a lot to me done.

The main problem is that there is about an acre of trees that all need taking down . The trunks are tiny and they are more like bushes... i am really not very good with land! What would be the best way to get rid of these? there are about a 1000 little trees.

Ragwort - what is the best way to get rid of this?

Stables - We would need 3 stables built too .. do people suggesst the best way to do is yourself? they can be quite expensive!

If anyone knows of any good tree surgeons or alike in the area of west oxfordshire please could you send me their details!

Thank you!

I think it depends how dense this little wood is and if there is growing grass around the trees.

Also, if there are no other trees and bushes along the fences then I would leave a small grove for shelter against wind and for the horses to eat leaves and twigs from as they eat at least 10% non-grass stuff.

Ragwort:
I have seen many fields on livery yards which were full of Ragwort. Not advocating to leave it, just stating it as a fact.

Stables:
Depends on the horses. Gypsy cobs might not need them at all. Otherwise only a simple shelter. But some people might even leave their TB without field shelter ... Depends also on the location of the field.
Also, I have seen very poorly built stables. As long as the wind won't blow them away ... is there no minimum standard.
