Help!! I have the most beautiful beagle in the world. He is sweet, funny and very good temperament. I should think myself lucky I hear you cry. However, he is absolutely nuts. He is only one year old and full of himself, constantly. i walk him one hour every morning, one hour every eveing, come home for one hour lunch every day. He is never left alone for more than three hours and still destroys everything in sight. He chews, he barks, he whines. as soon as I am home (and it has to be me) he is fine, even if my partner comes home he still goes mad. he spends most his time running madly in circles! I love him to pieces, he is my pride and joy, however has anyone ever dealt with this before! What can I do??? x

sounds a bit like seperation anxiety to me...

but, have you tried crate training him (a nice big one) so to limit damage?

or kongs or other stuffed toys?

Agree with Tinkerbee...U need to minimise all the attention he gets from you and introduce a crate to help u allow him to spend secure periods away from u.....u need to introduce him slowly to the crate whilst u are in the home....and maybe start by placing treats in and leaving the door open...then gradually try closing it for short periods.....try long lasting treats...as suggested a stuffed kong.
Try encouraging your OH to walk him/have playtime...to get him used to being handled by someone else.

It will take time to introduce him to the crate...but be patient and dont give it to the first wimper.
Dont make a huge fuss upon your return home when u leave him in the crate for thew first time....take your coat off then let him out into the garden...no fuss/petting/talking.....leave him out for a while...then upon his return dont overdo it with the greetings allow him to settle with minimal fuss.

Try to get him used to being comfortable with not being in your constant company...buy placing him in the crate for short periods whilst u are in/ and bed time...always place him in there at bedtime.
Leave the radio on when u go out so he cant hear your arriving home.

Maybe up the excercise if he is very active...try taking him out on a bike(him running..not on the bike lol

) to burn of a little more energy...before leaving him for periods....maybe think about castration...this may help to settle him.
Good luck.....Im sure u will get somemore advice...when anyone can actually get past the OUT OF SERVICE CRAP
