On sunday night my pony was really offcolour didnt want to eat (normally the greediest horse on the yard) just stood around for ages in the field saturday and sunday day. He is 10 yr 13.2hh, also when i got him up he didnt want to walk, or eat haylage but didnt show any sign of pain atall! I think he may have been stuffed or very tired but this is really out of character for him! He has been on bute and now is fine and normal again! We rang the vet and they said there is not much they could do it sounds a bit like a virus, and just to give him bute and see how he goes if he gets worse they will come down ! Well he is fine now but i cant help but worry !! Do you think it was just a 24hour bug thing or is there anyother options ?
Thanks and sorry if this seemed a really pointless post was so worried about him !!

Thanks for your help, he didnt show any colicy signs whatsoever, also had the farrier less than a week before and he said his feet was fine. There was no signs of pain or any heat in any of the hoofs. He seems fine now and is eating and drinking normally, just curious to know what it was ?

Strange, sorry dont know what else to suggest. Maybe he had just eaten lots and was resting? If hes ok now just keep a close eye. Has he had his teeth checked in the last 6 months?

Dont apologise for it being a pointless post, it isnt. Thats what this forum is for. To learn from others and get advice, especially if youre worried

As Teddy says. I would also be asking vets to take full blood profiles which will give an indication of any problem and where it relates. I do hope its just a one off and your boy returns to normal soon

Thanks for all your help Teddy, i will keep an eye on him but at the moment he seems fine but if he gets any worse i will call the vet to give him an all over check including his teeth again !
Llwyncwn thanks, yes he seems to be very much normal now so i hope it was just an one off ! but if he seems a bit offcolour again i would probably call the vet out to do blood test etc but will keep a close eye on him !.

Thanks again for all your help!

If he was only 'off colour' for a short period it is possible that he could have had a slight colic. Not all colics involve horses rolling & thrashing around. Like us ,sometimes you can have a slight tummy upset & other times it can be awful. If he's fine now I wouldn't worry about something that got better on its own in 24 hours.

Hope this helps.
