I have just got my old saddle down from the attic..
It is in need of some TLC.
Not sure on maker .
It is marked made in england
And says spring tree.
On the stirrup bars says forged steel.
Any ideas on the maker please .?

None of those will help identify the maker. Is there anything on the button or a stamp on the leather anywhere?

Would need to see the logo on these buttons if it has one, some older saddles dont

The spring tree part means that the saddle tree was made with laminated wood and spring metal bars (more flexible)

Also have you looked everywhere for a different mark? eg underneath or underside of /under the 3 girth straps or where the stirrups attach

Also the D rings on it make it look a bit like an old crosby saddle... but i believe the 'button' parts were mostly stamped with the logo

Honestly, I’d be surprised if anyone paid anything for it with a view to putting on a horse.

But maybe it will have a value for repurposing it? I couldn’t say what though, £50 max?

I would agree that most people are unlikely to buy it to use on a horse. Looking from the back views it seems very narrow through the gullet (as older saddles tended to be) and the back seam at the bottom doesn't match up with the back seam up to the cantle. That could be because the cantle has split and the leather pulled to one side, but I would be suspect of the tree, especially as the front is damaged also. Photos can be deceptive too, but it does not look level from the front views either, especially where it is sitting on the grey cloth.

It looks a little bit like an old Pennwood.

I have a lovely Pennwood - the pins were plain black - tops have since come off revealing silver underneath.

It is a similar shape but mine has padded knee rolls & back of cantle is different the gullet is wider and the panels have more padding too.

Could be an early one maybe?

If you like the saddle I'd look at repurposing it, I've seen people make bags or bar stools out of old saddles but there's probably other stuff you could use it for if you're creative or willing to pay a creative person.
