I know branding is now illegal in Holland, but was it in 1995?
This mare has what looks like an X in a circle on her off side thigh, does this mean anything to anyone, is it a society brand or loss of use maybe? i've looked on the a few websites that show brands and can see nothing simular. Her sire is an anglo-arab and her dam is KWPN. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes I thought that too but her studbook is Nederlandse Rijpaard en Pony stamboek (NRPS) and I have only ever seen society brands on the nearside.

I know the Hispano-Arab (PRE X Arab) we have at work has a cross on his shoulder as well as his stud brand on his backside, denoting that he is a cross-bred. I wonder if it could mean something like that?
I also know that PRE colts are branded on the nearside, but the fillies are done on the offside... so the positioning of the brand could be to do with the fact that she is a mare. I don't know if warmbloods get marked like PREs though (and Lusitanos are done the opposite way around so that may mean nothing!)
Just a bit of a guess
