I bought a TB mare about a month ago from a stables with an very good reputation. Over the past month I have only been able to go out with her once due to:

-Kick to one front leg causing swelling.

-Minor Cuts on Legs causing swelling of all legs.

-A pulled shoe causing foot soreness.

-Soreness in 1 leg with no apparent cause.

-Mudfever

-An Abscess in the front hoof.

-Soreness on neck from fly bites/stinging nettles

*Please note theses all happened at different times over the month.

She appears to be very sensitive to everything! Is this just her getting used to a different environment with lots of different horses (she was only turned out either by herself or with 1 other horse at her previous home). She is my first horse and I was planning to go out eventing but every 3/4 days something goes wrong. Is she settling in or is this a serious problem?
Thanks x

That's TB's for you lol!

New horses also have a good ability to get into all sorts of scrapes to start with!!

Hope it all settles soon!

Welcome to world of TB ownership .
You need to learn how to manage her it's not something she has control over .

Mine (not a TB, but has a fair bit of TB in his breeding) was like this as a youngster. He seemed to be the world's most accident prone horse!

However, reading between the lines, I would suggest you get her onto a good mineral supplement (Forageplus probably best place to start) - low levels of certain minerals can lead to poor hoof quality, abscesses, skin problems including proneness to mud rash/rain scald...
Horses not getting enough zinc in their diet also are much slower to heal when they do get injured, and low levels of magnesium and calcium can cause horses to be quite reactive and oversensitive.

Since getting a good mineral supplement with zero iron but high in copper/zinc, my horse has much better hoof quality and doesn't seem to come out in lumps and bumps nearly as much. Mind you, it hasn't made him any less likely to appear at the gate with cuts and grazes, but he is a big playful boy, so I just keep a tub of Sudocreme handy ;)
Here's a link to the article on abscesses and their causes :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. We had a farrier look at her and he said she had bad/weak feet so I will look into supplements for her, a fly rug is soon to be arriving and I will be making an appointment with her saddle fitter to get that checked. Hopefully everything will be healed in a week or so for some more practice and off to events at the end of the month *touch wood*.
