Help please – does this sound like a scam? I advertised my horsebox for sale at the weekend and have had a call from someone who is interested. However, this person is sourcing a horsebox for someone else. This person works for a finance company who will buy the box (under the instruction of the real buyer) and I’m guessing, have just quickly looked at their website they will then lease it to them. What concerns me is that the real buyer (who is elsewhere in the country) is prepared to do this, just from photos. The finance guy will come and look at the wagon. The finance company seem to specialise in specialist transport financing e.g. tractors, coaches, fancy cars etc.
I’m naturally cautious and obviously I wouldn’t part with the wagon until all monies are banked and cleared .. but my question is, … is this quite normal? Should I be worried? Anyone else heard of this type of transaction?
They are planning to leave a deposit tomorrow?!?!?

I'm not too sure if this is one of the many scams going around or not but do you know the name of the company concerned? Try doing an internet search and see what you come up with about them. Also be aware that with these scams the money can clear and then suddenly no longer be clear so it may be best to insist upon a cash purchase.A genuine buyer will not mind this.

I agree, cash only. Someone once tried to con me with a forged Building Society cheque, which most people would accept as cash. I didn't send the goods btw.

just dont hand over your bank details for the deposit, if they can't pay cash/ cheque (until cleared) stay well away.
sound very suspicious to me.

It sounds like a similar scam that happens with cars. I know someone who put their car on autotrader and then had a phone call from someone who wanted to sell the car on behalf of the owner- or something to that effect, list it on their website or something. Sounds dodge to me

If they leave a non-rubbery deposit it could well be legit

Be careful of them wanting to charge you £90+ for providing you a service by selling your box.

Do not release vehicle until funds have cleared.
