Ok well ive had a Albion K2 jumping saddle for less than a year, and although its a lovely saddle and very popular, i just dont get on with it, it doesnt really fit either of my two and i just dont like it!!!

So firstly how much do you like it would resell for?? Its black, wide, 17.5" and about 11months old. and in very good condition - only ever used to jump in and not used everyday???

Now the question is what saddle do i go for to replace it??? I have a dressage saddle so it will only need to be used for sj and xc and poss. hacking out in occasionally. I have my eye on the blyth tait pessoa saddle, if i can save up maybe an amerigo of some description and in my dreams - something within the realms of a devoucoux
wink.gif
depending on how long i can wait to save up for one!!!!!! ideally it would be close contact and have a reasonably flatish seat without me flying off every time i jump because there's nothing holding me on board!!!. Anyone have any ideas of what saddle i should go for??? Its a tricky one but i just cant live with this saddle for another year - its too heavy and uncomfortable to be worth keeping.

Any recommendations, and guidance very much appreciated!!!!

The pessoa saddles are supposed to be very good. The Devoucoux according to one forum member are supposed to be rotten for horses backs. I have a close contact absolutely love it. Mine has long girth keep meaning to try short girth but as my horse is not very impressed with the short girth on his dressage saddle think I will stick with a long girth.

i'd love a devoucoux but i think it would have to be 2nd hand and they are very hard to come by especially in exactly the right size etc!!!!!!!!!

LOL Rosiie!!!!!!!!!!!

I swapped my Albion K2 for a bates momentum. I love this saddle, it is seriously comfortable, gives you enough freedom without feeling like you are going to be pinged out of the saddle, can be adjusted and is just lush!!

Ridden in a Blyth tate, and TBH, not a fan. Found it quite uncomfortable, and preferred a pessoa if completely honest! The blyth still has quite a deep seat, and is very hard!!

My favourite saddle of all time after my bates, was a twin flap Butet, seriously comfortable, felt secure but not restrictive.

Ohhhhhhhhh I have a saddle for sale that could possibly be PERFECT for you - it is a close contact - its Ideal but based on the Butet - it is pretty rare, as comfortable as anything and is LUSH! Here is a pic of me jumping in it:

i knew there was a lot of choice for jumping saddles but it seems that there is much more than i had ever ever imagined!!!!!!!!

The problem around here is that the saddlers around us have very little choice of saddles so you end up getting what they sell best which is really irritating because its never usually what you want!!!

So do you think a pessoa amo would be better than a blyth tait then???

I love jumping in the Stubben S, is what Jasper was in for sj, and it was so comfy, and a VSS for hunting, but TBH that was leaning more towards GP for my liking. I rode Havock last week in a JW EX3 (i think!!) and I didnt like it at all, IMHO I thought the knee roles were just...funny shape

but then I love the JW Avanzata, its a lovely shape.

i had a stubben rex on my little pony, and it was nice, but apparently over the last 5-10yrs stubben saddles have got worse and worse and only the old saddles are worth getting - only what i have heard though dont know if it is true!!!!!!!

uumm dont think id get a JW just because they are very showjumpery and i would have to go xc in it

Yes i thought that Lou, we have them down at Mrs N's yard who I ride for, they are a lot older than the new ones, but with weight of gel pad aswell they do weigh a fair bit!

Pessoas and Blyth taits are also notoriously difficult fitting saddles, they either fit beautifully, or not at all!!!

It is worth begging/borrowing/trying anything you can to get a feel of whether you like big/small knee blocks, thigh blocks or none, completely flat seat, or slight depth, everyone varies so much!

Oh yes the JW's made me feel a bit insecure for xc. Seriously, the stubben ones are lovely, I love riding Jasp in him. Only fault I can pick with VSS is it has lips over the front, so you cant attatch your hunting flask to it, it has to go at the back, but I think that solves the problem of the inner flaps getting covered in mud going xc, just wipe the front down. Dont know if that makes any sense!

I was baffled, Joanne said "do you know how to put it on that saddle" and I sniggered and said "I have done it a million times" and then when I looked at it I couldnt understand why someone would take away the convinience of having your saddle flask right by your hand, obviously their designer was not a keen hunter

In all seriousness though, they are ace, I adore both of those stubbens, and the three down at Mrs N's yard, though they are ancient and a little like polo saddles now, keep telling her they need restuffing

Its not new, possibly not fashionable but I do adore my battered old Stubben Siegefreid.

I've been jumped out of the saddle by Monsieur Governor on a few occasions in other saddles, but the Siegefreid is flat as a pancake and I seem to stay balanced in it and slide back into it when I need to - if that makes sense.

Only possible complaint is that it is a little hard (even with my ample padding!) and as a result I probably wouldn't fancy a days hunting in it. Its also very short flapped, it doesn't bother me that much, but is not as aesthetically pleasing on a strapping 16.2/3hh horse as a different cut might be - fits fine though.

Have you looked at the heather Moffett Phoenix saddles, treeless, comfy, ideal if you have 2 horses of a similar size as they'll fit both beautifully! About to get a dressage and jumping one (they retail at around £1095 but well worth IMO)

I *thought* I wanted a Pessoa Amo (having ridden in one and loved it !) until I saw the Prestige Paris jumping saddle. It's a bit more expensive than the Amo but looks gorgeous. That said, I haven't actually ridden in one yet....but i'm aiming for one now with the Amo as the fallback plan if I don't like it
