help keeping pony cool

so i was wondering what are people doing to help keep there ponies/horses cool in this hot weather??

hubby thought i had gone mad when last night i used a large plastic tuperware, filled it with water, chucked in some chopped apples and carrots added some pepermint ess, then froze into a giant ice cube!

this morning the pony loved licking it! ive already got another in the freezer to take up later.

so any other ideas??

In this heat and with the sweet things frozen inside it, I doubt the ice would remain cold enough to be dangerous for more than five minutes.

Bearing in mind, horses are naturally much hotter than we are, so their tongues will be hotter than ours would be.

to be honest hadnt really considered there tounge sticking to it!! but like others have pointed out, as its so hot the top of the ice cube is watery so no really worry

pony loved it- though he's so greedy i think he was just desperatly trying to getting the pieces of apple out!
