My horse was kicked on Monday- top of his front leg at the back. It was bleeding slightly, a bit puffy and he was clearly lame. I hosed and purple sprayed cut ( all i could do in the dark and he wasn't wantin it touched without hassle.)
Tuesday- his leg was more puffy so i cold hosed for 15 mins and walked him for 20 mins 3 times that day. He wasn't as lame and loosened off and walked better when i was walking him. The swelling was down a bit by night time.
Today the swelling is down a fair bit and he is sound but the swelling seems to have moved down his leg a bit??? I'm a bit worried so could anybody shed some light on what or why that is??

I turned him out today as he was going daft being stuck inside with little walks, i hosed and hibiscrubbed his leg when he come in. I also put purple spray on it before i left. Oh i also put aloe vera gel on the swelling around the cut. He's letting me touch it now, without as much hassle.

His leg is ever so slightly warm to touch but it is much cooler than on Monday/ Tuesday.
The cut seems to be quite small, possibly the lenght of a short thumb nail and is quite narrow. It has scabbed over. I'm not sure how deep though.

So really what i'm asking is- Is there anything else i can do to get rid of the swelling??
And - what has caused or why the swelling seems to have mooved down his leg a little??

The swelling is quite firm, its not huge hanging of his leg, just noticable if looked at from infront/ that side. Thanks.

if there is heat and swelling even after being walked about/turned out then chances are there is an infection. You will need to call your vet out to get some antibiotics if neccessary. If you press the swelling and it indents then that is a definite sign of infection.

Was thinking of gettin vet out tomorro if it wasn't any better, probably will. The swelling dosen't seem to indent when poked at- not that my horse enjoys when i do that, lol. Thanks for reply.
