Help. Lab ate one of those small bags of silica

Can anyone advise please. My 9 month old lab has just picked up one of those little bags of silica gel pellets they put in handbags etc to keep them dry. It was under the cushion in the new bed I bought him today (i didn't think to check it). By the time I got to him he'd managed to swallow about half of it, I've managed to get the rest out.

Should I get him to the vets, or will it just pass through him?
 
I would not have thought it that would cause any issues, I dont think it toxic/poisonous when ingested esp that small amount in that size dog, u may get some vomiting or loose faeces, but phone the vet anyway, it's always best too, they may ask u to keep a close eye on him and will tell u what to look out for if it does have an effect, I think he will be fine, we have had calls for dogs ingesting that before with no ill effect, but do check with your own vet.

I checked on the internet to see if it was toxic. It would appear that as long as it is the clear gel it is not toxic. If it's the gel that turns blue or pink then it contains something which can cause heart & breathing problems. Luckily it was of the clear variety, so that's a relief.

Checked with vet & they weren't worried. Just keep an eye on him as there may be some vomiting.

He seems none the worse for it, seems completely normal. I'll hold off giving him his tea for a while, which I'm sure will upset him more than the silica.
 
No I haven't posted any photos. I don't think I have any recent ones of him, although I have some lovely ones of him at 8 weeks old. I'm not sure if I can manage to post photos on here, my OH did it for me last time & another member did my signature thingy (as you can tell, I'm not great with technology).
