Hi, my six month old foal keeps limboing under or through the electric fencing to get to the other field. He does this regardless of the electric current or whether there is another horse in the field or not. I am sick to death of mending the tape - has anyone used the new plastic type rails and how do you rate then or do you have any other ideas of how I can stop this?

Hi there, we had the same problem with our foal we had to put in extra posts and 4 rows of tape on the fence between the 2 fields, it stopped her and she has not changed fields since, by the way she used to go over the bottom tape and under the top one even if the fence was on.. bless her.
Good luck

Sorry, this post made me laugh.....

Little bugger!

My 3 1/2 month foal does this, but only on one side, not the other

I ahve watched her grazing halfway through with the tape pulsating on her back, but her hair is so thick she couldn't feel it!

I would love to get some of that platic type post and rail, but can't afford it. Am going to post and rail instead.

I have found tape to be useless on its own, the fillaments in it are very thin and if broken in the wind will no longer carry a current. I use a line of the 5 strand wire behind the thin (12mm) tape that carries a very good current and use the tape as a visual thing only.

It breaks easily if there is a problem but is much much better than the tape alone. You can get it on Ebay very cheaply.

Please be very careful using thicker tape or the polyrope, I have seen a horrific injury from poly rope and would not have the stuff anywhere near my lot!!!

My lot are guilty of this, nearly all of them have done so when younger.

I`m on mains power now..Ha!! that taught them.

I`m afraid from the age of 6months to 3 years they seem to do it, its SOOO frustrating isnt it.

I tried everything, double fencing, more strands, higher fencing, creating knots so that it clicked more, put a dominant horse in the paddock they escape to.....

Really feel for you, its the most annoying thing.
