When I had a lurcher pup he grew at an alarming rate during the first year, I think he ended up around 28" in the end

Mmmm, I'd say pretty big! Do you know how heavy he is? Do you know what kind of start he had? Do his paws and joints still look like they belong to some other dog?

We got Stan at about 5 mos, when he was about 18" and something like 16-17kg - the rescue thought he'd be 20-22" and 20ish kg. He's now about 26" and 27kg . . . (Either that or they were lying to us about how big he'd get so we'd take him.;) ) I'd say he started slowing down coming up on a year, height-wise, and has just filled in since then.

I'd say if anything your fellow is larger than S was at that age but of a similar build.

Tarrsteps: Yes his paws are definatly bigger than they look like they should be- no idea how heavy he is and i cant remember what he was when he was castrated which wasnt long ago. I shall have to see if i can measure him.

As far as im aware he had a good enough start in life, we had him @ 3 months old as he came from a lady who was abit.. *ahem* 'special' and she had too many dogs.

Im sure her intentions were all good and he wasnt skinny or full of worms/fleas etc.

We've compared the photo to Stan and your fellow is definitely heavier than he was at the same age. I'd say you're in for a few more months of people saying, "Oh my god, he's enormous!" every time they see him.

I'm assuming you don't know anything about his cross - he almost looks like he has Ridgeback or similar in him.

You might get a more definitive answer from Lurcher Link or Greyhound Gap or similar forums. I have no idea if there is a "string test" for dogs!
