As per title, really... Doggie was only out of my sight for about a minute on our walk yest but managed to put that minute to good use by rolling in something extremely pongy.

I've washed him last night & again this morning using a different dog shampoo. This morning I was smelling the pongy bit (shoulder) & having another scrub at it...and another scrub....and another scrub.... Eventually rinsed him off & he *still* smells. Prob only 10% as much as he did but it is def still there.

Smells like chicken litter but there aren't any broilers round here.

The offender is a Rottie, so not overly furry.

Tomato sauce, rub in leave to dry then wash off. Works for fox poo anyway

You beat me to it! Tomato sauce works a treat

I use vinegar to help neutralise offensive odours in my grooming salon on doggies with "eau de fox peuuu". Much less messy than tomato sauce/juice. Allow it to sit several minutes and you can rinse it off again if you like to avoid smelling like a chip shop. But it can bring up a lovely shine, too!

Thankies...vinegar sounds like a plan. Otherwise my next post will be, 'How do I get tomato sauce off the carpet?'

Only, I don't think I've got any vinegar atm as I used it to descale the shower head... Def a job for tomo as doggie STILL pongs. Why would he want to roll in something so unbelievably stinky????

Is it the same rottie you posted about a few months ago? how is he doing? i think the last we heard of him he was causing havoc at the training class

Welcome to our world Catembi. Our Border Collie likes to roll in cow pooh, horse pooh, fox and badger pooh. I personally think Badger pooh is the worse......even though she seems to like it the best.

The stinkier the better in her eyes.

I like the vinegar plan though, I will keep that in mind.

Seafarer - yes it's my rescue rottie. He's getting on really well (apart from rolling in things...) He was 38kg when I got him & we've now stabilised his weight at 46kg which looks a lot better. I have taught him to sit, stay & not pull on the lead. He will also walk to heel off the lead.

We've upped the stakes & I've now taught him to sit & stay when there are visitors, i.e. he has to wait while I open the gate, let them in, shut the gate & they've got out of their car before I release him. He finds this very hard as he *loves* visitors, but he can now do it.

He gets beaten up by the stable cat & used as a climbing frame by the kitten. He plays nicely with the kitten, who treats him as a big brother.

He is getting better at meeting other dogs & people out walking - to start with, it was waaaaay too exciting. We walked an xc course a week or two ago which was teaming with dogs & he behaved a LOT better than I was expecting... and did all the jumps!

So, yeah. I think I've been very lucky with my first doggie considering I picked him randomly from Preloved...

We are having another go at the training once I've finished revising for some v hard prof exams which are next week. I'm hoping that he might behave now that he's seen a bit more of the world...

Great - so glad he's doing well. I just remember the post where you first got him and he'd trapped your OH at the bottom of the stairs! Sounds like you've done brilliantly with him. Any pics of him being clever?
