Help me find a new horse

If anyone has a bit of time, I could do with your collective help.

Lost my old mare in May last year and have been seriously looking for a new once since November. What with sellers not getting back to me, horses turning out not to be as advertised or lame, and the last one who seemed perfect but was lame when lunged at the vetting, I am starting to lose hope.

Looking in the South East area. Think I have a reasonable budget of up to maximum of £10,000. Looking for a mare preferably, 14.3hh to 15.2hh, 7 to 12 years old. Must be safe, sane, sensible and not sharp as I am an older lady who no longer wants to put up with any high jinx. Also must be good to hack in heavy traffic both alone and in company and not hot up in open spaces. For hacking, schooling and low level jumping. Not fussed on breed, but not a heavyweight cob or full tb.

At one time I would have said that budget was healthy for that type of horse but, now prices have shot up, I'm not so sure. Not without it having a quirk or medical weakness, anyway.

I think what @Red-1 has said is unfortunately correct, though- unless you are willing to compromise on vices or medical history, these sorts of horses are worth a lot of money now, and selling very quickly still (possibly mainly by word of mouth). It might be worth putting out a wanted advert? As well as letting everyone know that you are looking, in the hope that you could perhaps snap something up before it came to market?

Alternatively, something a bit older or smaller would probably be within budget?

Have you looked on www.nfed.co.uk? Some are more south east than south west.

I feel your pain. I was looking for 4 months for a horse and finally found her in March. I was looking for exactly what you are describing, she cost just over half of your budget and literally ticks every single box. I'd recommend putting up a wanted ad on a few Facebook pages, that's how I found my mare as she wasn't advertised so I was the first person to see her. Good luck with your search!
