A little HHO help please for a friend :)

Criteria:

Within Scotland, preferably within 150 miles of Dundee.
To make 15.2hh - 16.2hh (smaller needs to be chunkier).
Current age of 2, 3 or 4.
Unbacked.

Breed unimportant, as is sex, colour etc, open to suggestions.

Maximum budget 1000.

Anyone know of anything up for sale that fits the above?

Thanks :)

If only you were down south! Friend has a lovely 4 year old unbacked mare for sale! Very pretty coloured too!

Good luck with your hunt though, I'm sure someone on here will have something suitable.

Yes LittleWildOne, a 4 year old section D is possible, do you have any further details?

Yes, :).
She's dark bay with a blaze and 2 socks behind.
Malog Telynores Menna. Currently stands at approx 14.3hh.
By Menai Sparkling Image, out of Malog Tywysoges Ruth. Breeding is mainly Derwen, Nebo and Menai in the first 5 generations.
She was bred in Wales and came up to Scotland as a foal.
I know that she has been in the showring as a foal in 2008, as there is a photo of her at the Royal Welsh on Rainhill Welsh Cobs website. Apart from that, she hasn't been shown so has not experienced the "firing up and chasing" that goes on in Welsh in hand classes.
I bought her last September from a well known stud near Aberdeen, so can give you a contact number for previous history.
She loaded and travelled in a very small lorry without any problems when I bought her. I don't know if she has ever been in a trailer.
She is great to handle, catch and work with, although is a little bit sensitive about having her feet picked up. This appears to be more the case that she has not had time spent on teaching her to pick up, as there is no badness. She seems genuinely unsure.
I have had tack on her, and have leaned over and sat on her, but then I turned her away over winter.
She didn't put a foot wrong at any time during learning to wear tack etc and is easy to work with in that respect.
I've also led her, in a headcollar, to the end of the drive to see traffic. She didn't show any interest at all in the fast moving (60mph road) traffic at any time when walking towards the road, standing facing/sideways on/with her back to traffic, or when walking away from it. She was 100% relaxed the whole time.
The ONLY reason I am selling her is that I have arthritis of my spine which has been causing me a lot of pain over the last few months. Otherwise, I would keep her to back and bring out in ridden showing classes.
She's very well bred, and comes from generations of successful show stock.

She is advertised for more than your budget, but I'd rather she went to a good home rather than stand in the field doing nothing due to my flaming bad back :)

Thanks all :)

I'm gonna send a link to this post to my friend so she can see the suggestions.

Lovely section D LittleWildOne, I'm a big fan of welsh cobs and have one of my own but mine is only 3.
Just out of interest, what height was yours at 3? I'd be interested to know how much she's grown between 3 and 4. Mine is Fronarth and Thornyside lines, both supposedly bigger types and I've what looks like a section C :(

She has grown at least an inch in height since I bought her. I'm 5'6" tall if that helps you judge her height from the photos.
She's growing again now as she is slightly bum high but looks gangly around her shoulders. I would expect her to finish at 15.1hh by the way she is growing and changing shape.
Here is a link to her pedigree if that helps
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/malog+telynores+menna.

The rugs I bought for her last September were 6 foot. Her turnout rug is now too small for her around her shoulders. She would need a 6'3" now, and maybe 6'6" - 6'9" (depending on the make/fit) when she is fully mature.

As far as backing her goes, you could tack her up and sit on her tomorrow. I did exactly that 2 weeks ago. Just brought her in, groomed, tacked up and got a leg up. That's how easy she is to work with. I just can't physically help her with learning about picking her feet up because of my back. She doesn't kick out, she just plants them.:)

Have a look on whitegate stud's page. I bought a youngster from Linda there. Might need to negotiate a touch on price though - she could maybe recommend if she has nothing herself.

My friend also bought 2 lovely and well bred highlands from a place in perthshire - if you google newton logierait it'll bring the website up.
