New pony but not new me and finding myself getting out of my depth! Mare is on top sec 2 x daily as she was charging around her paddock and it seemed to work. Tonight she would not be caught, bucking, kicking rearing, ears flat back it took over an hour to get her. Help and advice most welcome as I now have angry mum and sister!

Topspec the chaff, or the pelletts, ponies dont need hard feed, just hay. Have you been able to catch her yet, wait until she is hungry dont feed her in the field and she will come to you, or take a bucket of feed and see what happens

She was eventually caught after mum and sister put top spec in chaff and let it kick in. I was considering keeping some of those magic syringes in for nights like tonight. Not sure if I give them to the mare or the family

I am not sure what you expect the top spec or magic to do but they are not going to kick in in the way you think, they are not sedation the chances are once she had eaten this evening she just decided to come in anyway as she had had her fun and was hungry.
Is she bored? getting enough to eat plenty of hay if no grass? has she got company? is she working enough? addressing these will be more effective than trying to get her to take a calmer, most are only going to have an effect if the horse is deficient in magnesium and once they are balanced it is not going to help get to the root of the behaviour.

As above Top Spec (even the calmer) is not a sedative and it's not instant so that isn't what 'kicked in' tonight and magic calmer syringes won't work with helping you catch her although they may make her calmer to turn out.

To be honest it just sounds perfectly normal, she's in new surrounding with strange people and in a different routine. Is she alone? that may explain the galloping around

Also agree- it's not the topspec "kicking in" that enabled you to catch her, just that she decided to be caught!

As catroo saidm if she's in a new surrounding with new people, she is probably just a bit unsure of herself. Give her a bit of time to settle :)

All great advice and will be putting the top spec away and letting her settle using Diddleydoo's fabulous link. I left work early today to put them to bed and my little mare was an angel so had a parsnip treat for just being a mummy's girl
