i don't know how to make everyone see me as useful with horses. this is to do with riding and helping out. i really do try and i never hesitate it's just hard to stand out :( any ideas?

Wear bright colours?

Sorry don't really know what you are asking? Are you saying people don't take you seriously or don't believe in you?

What experience do you have? How old are you? What do you consider to be your strengths/weaknesses? What sort of horses do you want to work with? What makes you different from everyone else your age/level of experience? How are you going about looking for somewhere you can help?

For you to stand out to me you would need to:

1. Always be on time to start work
2. Never clock watch at the end of the day - stay to see the job through, regardless.
3. Always be polite - to everyone.....owner, other staff, clients, visiting professionals etc
4. Always be clean and well turned out.....that means smart and workmanlike, not in the latest colour coordinated fashion!! :)
5. Be observant......notice changes in the number of droppings of the horses you muck out every morning; notice changes in the volume of water consumed (assuming buckets) etc etc.
6. Ask questions......if in doubt and to show interest.
7. Volunteer and step up to extra jobs and responsibility.
8. No swearing.
9. No tears or tantrums.
10. Show compassion to all the horses.....even the PITA sh:tland that won't be caught!
11. Be thorough in all your work and do to a high standard such that you are never asked to redo a job....eg tack cleaning, grooming etc etc
12. Be adult in your demeanour with all your interactions with the owner and others you encounter

I'm sure there's more, but if you can step up to all that lot you;ll be doing a lot better than many of the students I've encountered of late.....and yep! I am old fashioned! :D
