So, we are in the final stages of buying our house (not yet exchanged) however, we now have the dilemma of what to do with the cats and dog???!!!

I have to give 3 months notice at work, but don't want to do this until we have exchanged, in case it all falls through and I get stuck with no job! So there will be a 3 month period where I can't move into the new house yet... We are staying at my fiancées parents during this period but won't be able to have the cats and dog there as they are allergic! I have no idea what to do? Should I try and find a house sitter? Or offer free livery in exchange for looking after the animals? Help! Has anyone been in this situation before? Thanks in advance

Can you not rent a house on a short-term tenancy for the 3 months that you need? Massive pain to keep moving furniture but it should mean you can keep the animals with you.

I don't think it would be fair on the cats to be kept in with no company (other than a quick check to be fed/watered) for 3 weeks, and it wouldn't be fair on the dog either.

Think you'll find it hard to find a house to rent that will let you have the animals.

Th free livery may work. I've moved quite a bit and have always put our cat in a cattery to keep him out of the way while moving but it's never been for more than a few days. You could do that long term for the animals but it would no doubt cost a fortune (dogs and cats used to do 6 months quarantine don't forget)

Good luck!

Thanks guys. It's frustrating as originally my grandmother had said she would live up there, but has now said she doesn't want to be there for three months by herself, which I understand. I think my mum may look after my digits mainly the cats that are an issue. We will be going up there every weekend do its just finding someone during the week.. Unfortunately we won't be able to afford to rent another property as ill still be paying my rent for the horses, hence why they're no issue and we just can't afford that and the mortgage. Do you think someone would look after the cat in exchange for free/cheap livery? Just a bit worried that it would be some one just looking for a way to keep their horse for less... It would also only be for three months so not sure if anyone would do that short term.
