I am shortly about to move yards from yard with lots of storage to yard with very little storage how on earth do I decide what to take !! I have accumulated so much stuff, all of which I'm sure he will need the moment it is not on the yard with him. How many rugs would anyone think are necessary to have available ??. bearing in mind I am on full livery in week and cannot just nip up and take stuff up due to work hours. is very complicated. also husband less than keen to have all the rest in the garage ! does anyone have any clever ideas to maximize storage in small area at yard ??

We had the same prob - from a big tack room to ourselves, to sharing a tack room with 12 others!!! We have had to keep alot of stuff at home as there simply isn't room at the yard. At the yard we keep (per horse) grooming kit, sweat sheet, fly sheet, fly mask, lightweight turnout, cotton sheet, travel boots, tack and boots. We have one first aid box shared between them and also a few washing oddments too. The rest is in our cellar! Rugs will be swapped as the seasons change. We keep sweat sheet and grooming kits in their stable as they have big window sills, the rest is hidden away in the tack room! We have had to get alot tidier too!

Hang your rugs in your stable, and keep everything you use all the time at the yard, and put the rest in your attic, your OH can't complain if its out of sight ;)

Have you thought about a big plastic storage chest think you can get them from B&Q for garden stuff? You can fold lots of rugs up and even lock them. I was a bit tight for useful space in my allocated space at the yard so I've put a couple of deep shelves up high to store stuff on in plastic boxes.

Rather than a grooming kit box I have one of those plastic chest of drawers from Wilcos - the top drawer I use for grooming kit, the others I use for lunging equipment etc. 3 times as much stuff in the same amount of floorspace ;o)

I have plastic chests for my rugs and one of the Wilkos draw sets for grooming stuff, boots and lunging equipment. I'd recommend shelves as well if your can put them up. I moved from having a tack room to myself to a small locker but its amazing how much stuff you can cram in if you're clever about space.
