Help! My 3yrd old Gelding is mounting a mare!

My gelding who is 3 and was gelded when he was 11 months old has just been given a new field mate after the the horse he was in with moved livery yards. since i moved to this yard he has always been in with geldings so has never mixed with mares other than over the fence. he has been with this mare for two days now and she is in full blown season and he is doing his best to cover her...constantly! i have never came across this problem before and i have no idea what to do? Is it just an excitement phase and will pass soon enough or will this just be how it is and it will be back to the drawing board. i dont want either of them getting hurt, she is an older mare and he really isnt giveing her a minute?

I would separate them, it may settle down but with the chance of injury before that happens it is not worth leaving them together. If they were both yours I might have a slightly different view but the yard needs to do something before an accident not after.
