My beautiful English Setter has skin problems, itchy eyes and nose, due to allergies. We have been treating him with Prednisolone for some time but last night we had to rush him to the vets as he was vomiting blood it turns out he has got bad stomach ulcers which we think might be due to the Prednisolone, he is to be scoped next week. Can anyone recommend an alternative to this drug that will help him, maybe a herbal or a natural remedy for skin problems? He has been given Zantac to take twice a day but can anyone tell me how long ulcers take to mend.

Have you had a full skin work up to find out what the allergens are? You need to find out what the allergy is to know what treatment to use but long term steroids is not the answer. Lots of side effects as you now know. I hope he makes a recovery. My advise is to either go to a skin specialist and find out what the problem is or get your day vet to do the investigations. There are too many reasons for allergies and you can't just guess the treatment. All the prednisone is doing is treating the itch and inflammation it's not treating the cause x
