I thought it was just the change of car that upset him but today I realised the poor dog is car sick. he is fine when we start off, then ten mins into the drive he starts panting non stop and ends up attempting to hide his head under his blanket.
The car is a Freelander and in the back he has his old blanket , bone and he has three lots of windows. I have tried opening the back window, opening all the window so the blast of air is on him, but nothing seems to work and three days into the new car the problem is definitely getting worse.
We live in a difficult place for straight flat roads but today we came back on a motorway and he was just as bad if not worse.
I have had some success with ginger capsules in humans for travel sickness, does anyone know if they are safe for dogs?
Should I try blanking out the side windows?
Help someone, or the car will have to go!

Years ago, someone I knew used to put newspaper and or cardboard on the floor of the car where the dog went and it supposedly stopped the travel sickness....somehow.

I take it he was fine in the old car?

Can he see out of the windows now....would it be worth crating him and covering the crate.

I have hard mints are a good anti sickness remedy...polo mints, e,t,c

I have a freelander and I have a metal grill/cover on the rear window..so I can put the window right down for the fresh air to blow in...does your have one of these grills fitted...would that help at all.

Just saw the window bit...ignore that...but crate might help...it's more secure and takes away the motion of travelling as they cannot see as high.

I used to give my goldie a treat ball - it proved enough of a distraction to stop her throwing up and fretting. She didn't get ill because of the movement though, she just hated the Astra!!

I have the exact same problem so am really interested to hear peoples comments. My dog drools nonstop in the car and then throws up.

I have tried the pets at home stuff to no avail.

I am in a freelander in back seat! But nothing else!! Hough think that could of been due to the blokes driving & was only in it for 10 minutes!!

I have some wonderfull doggie car sickness stuff if you want just PM me!!

Newspaper works for me if I sit on it. I get very bad travel sickness if I'm not driving. But the newspaper stops the vibrations that make you feel sick, I don't no how but it works.

My bitches got car sick all the time when they were young, but they grew out of it. I think I was more distressed clearing it all up than they were! Never went anywhere without my rubber gloves, and kitchen roll.. My dog puppy has never suffered from it. Never managed to exactly "cure" it though, just put up with it. It just disappeared in time. So no help from me then..
