My newish (owned him for 3 months) horse appears to be a rug destroyer!! He is an angel in all ways except with his rugs!!!

So far he has ripped his Amigo medium weight 1200Denier (think L shape rip about 4 inches big and many small holes)

Also his Derby House heavyweight 2 day old 1200D by snapping the chest buckle and small rip anout 2 inches.

Can anyone suggest how to repair it myself or any ways of preventing the damage happening?

I think he is damaging his rug on fence (barbed wire) although the fence also has electric tape and is electrified! He is on livery so changing this isnt an option.

Thanks

Are you sure it's him?

My horse is an 'other horses' rugs destroyer. His are fine, he just like to grab hold of other horses rugs and not let go whilst they move off. His rugs are fine! We are also on a livery..

Sorry not very helpful I'm afraid, luckily his actual owner is a dab hand with a sowing machine.

Umm i did wonder if it could be the others as out of 5 horses only mine and 1 other is rugged. But the other horse's rug isnt damaged at all so im pretty sure its been done on the fence.

So annoying. YO said 'just take his rug off'. I but i really dont want to do this and i fear he may end up with injuries rather than a rip in his rug!

4 inch rip?! That's nothing, we've gone through 4 rugs in a month and a half, and I'm talking completely demolished beyond repair! Can sympathise..!

best thing to do is get your needle and thread out and get sewing. If you sew it up well enough it will still be waterproof.

I have had to sit for 20 minutes today to repair a hole someone else horse ripped in my lads rug. Good as new now though :)

So theres nothing to say the other one with a rug isn't the rug destroyer.

Haha good luck, unfortunately for me mine are beyond repair! Oh and it's especially nice finding bits of said rug strewn around the field, including stuffing lol.

Get a cheap waterproof, or beg, borrow someone's old one etc. and put on top and just keep repairing and patching, your good rug will probably be fine this way.
