I have brought my horse in from the field and he is lame on his front leg.....

He has an egg like lump between his knee and fetlock, on the inside.. It is very warm to touch around lump area and up to knee... When I touch, he is lifting his leg....

He has done quite a bit of work this weekend, he was fine this morning!!

Any advice would be great....

sounds like a splint. give it a cold hosing and keep your horse in overnite and see what its like in the morning.

you may have to get the vet out but most of the time they tell you to box rest and then take it steady!

my horse has one but it doesnt seem to cause her any trouble

How lame is he? On 3 legs lame or sound (ish) in walk lame?
I guess this is the difference between get the vet on a BH weekend or leave until Tuesday to ring!

Is the bump the size of an egg? Would a new split be that big?? I would hose it down, and bandage his legs. This will help support his legs, especially if he is not putting any weight on that particular leg. Put him in his stable, and see how he is in the morning. Sounds likeit could be a field injury? Maybe a kick? Remember, cut his feed down, whilst his on box rest!!!

yea sounds like a splint ... my horse came in from the field lame last year went sound a couple of days later then went lame again, got the vet out and it was a splint we had to put some fluid on the splint for a couple of weeks and 8 weeks box rest :/ later discovered he also chipped a bone but he's sound now ... so id get the vet out 2 be on the safe side :)

Dutto splint....cold hose and leave well alone, should settle and lie 'dormant' so to speak after a couple of weeks. Keep an eye on it and if it worsens call the vet :)

Aaargh horses!! They certainly know how to worry you!!!I will see how he is in the morning... I hosed it down will get the vet if no better tomorrow.. He is I would say a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 of lameness! He was able to put his weight on it to have a wee, so fingers crossed it may not be too bad....

I am thinking it has been a field injury, the field is soooo wet and boggy, he was struggling walking without slipping!! Wonderful british weather!!!!

Could be a splint but they don't normally come up that big so quickly. It might be a knock where he has banged himself, not a normal place for a kick from another horse. Definitely cold hose and bandage. If really lame in morning, call the vet. If better, I'd hose again and keep in but walk out in hand until swelling goes down and he is sounder. I'd call vet on Tues unless he is much better.
Let us know how he is
