Ignoring the double layered electric fence and charging straight through it. Would taking his rug off make a difference? YO saying he is only allowed out presently 3 hours a day as no grass which of course I agree with, usually out 247 but we started bringing in tea time from last weekend.

Is this purely due to lack of grass or habit forming as he knows how he can do it? YO assures me when spring grass comes through (will it ever?) that all should be ok.....otherwise, well I dread to think.

Any suggestions please? At my wits end.

Ps post n rail not an option :(

I would say its through lack of grass his looking for food, maybe put him out for the morning bring him in for hay then put him back out for a few hours, Its the same everywhere no ones got any grass mine want in after about two hours if I dont put hay out:(

My mare had a habit of mowing down electric fences once she was rugged for winter. Was really worried that she was going get hurt by the plastic posts getting broken up in the process. So came up with this - take a length of eletric fencing string, fasten it so that it touches the skin on the chest area then loops round the outside of the front of the rug. Fasten with velcro or an elastic hair bobble (something that will break if need be but wont heat up) This allows the horse to still feel the zap of the fence whilst wearing a rug. I felt awful doing it but it was better than possibly finding a broken post had cut her, plus after a couple of weeks she respected the fencing enough to take it off.

Hope this helps

Fab idea. Think I understand how you have done it. He is naked today but only allowed out for 3 hours. If he goes naked and it rains/snows continually like this, he will never be ridden! I am really hoping if he gets a zap he will respect the fencing. Didnt sleep last night as worried about eviction! Thanku. Is it worth me getting him close enough to the fence to get a zap? My worry is he wont ever come near me again x

Is the fencing turned up? My pony only respects electric fencing if it's mains powered and kicking out full wack. The tape on the rug idea is a good one

Well I zapped myself with it twice today while holding onto my boy, he flinched but not a massive deal. Not sure it can be turned up any higher, will ask YO again :( He is having to stay naked when he does go out :(
