Fudge has broken four muzzles in a week and every night he manages to get his muzzle off, either by rubbing his head on his leg until the muzzle comes off or standing on the muzzle until it breaks or he gets his nose out.
He wears a Shires or Aerborn muzzle and it' fitted correctly.

I've also tried the Green Guard muzzles without any success.

He's slightly overweight and strip grazing is not an option as the YO doesn't like it and my horse has little respect for electric fencing.

He's out at night on shortish grass and in during the day for nine hours, fed a section of soaked hay and Bailey's Lo-cal with black sunflower seeds.

I cannot work him any more than I'm currently doing due to the pressure of work at this time of year.

All suggestions welcome

My Shetland wears a BestFriend, it is attached to a headcollar of my own. If your pony rubs his muzzle on his leg until he gets his nose out of the bucket, then it is not fitted properly. Put the headcollar up a hole.

Did this muzzle come already attached to its own halter ?

When the muzzle starts to get old and worn, the velcro attachments get tired. I have strengthened them by using cable ties. Cable ties are very strong and I doubt he could break them. My pony certainly can't and he has a good go.

I never remove the muzzle from the "muzzle headcollar", so the velcro lasts longer.

you can get the bucket type ones with leather over the poll. They are brill. Shame mine rubbed H !!! typical !! £25 down the drain in 4 days of wear !!!
