Help - my mares mane being chewed

My horses field mate must be eating my mares mane as I have had her 8 years and never rubbed it out before. What can I put on it to dissuade her chum from chewing it.

A girl in my yard used Crib Halt to stop her horse's tail being chewed. It worked.

My mare has just come back from college with the top 30 odd cm of mane, but hogged via the medium of chewing courtesy of a field mate. Stupid thing is she would actually try and kill you if you tried to pull it!! No showing for us this summer!
