I need some more ideas as to what to do to stop my mini mare from hurting herself when she gets the back of her fetlock caught on the top of the stable door.
I've just paid for the body worker to put her right after her shoulder was very sore and her pelvis was out. She is perfectly quiet for my young grandkids outside but she has to be stabled for part of the day due to lami risk. I can't fence off the only area that hasn't any grass, as she'd be in the entrance to the field so others couldn't get in or out.
If I don't give her a calmer, she has in the past got her legs right out but then can't get them both back in and ends up with one foot caught on top of the door:eek:
I've installed a stable mirror, she has a treat ball and I try to interact with her as much as possible as time allows, even though she has plenty of soaked hay, she just wants attention all the time.
I also tried tieing a thick lead rope across the top of the door with a thick blanket wrapped around it in the hope her leg would just roll off but a couple of weeks ago, she even got herself caught behind the elbows over the rope!
My OH made a fixing so I can put a bar about 6" over the top of the door and I thought that had detered her - until today when she got a foot caught on that.
She has tiny feet and would probably get them through an anti weave grill, and I couldn't risk her being trapped all day like that.
I have in the past put her out for a few hours with the hole in her muzzled stopped up but I can't leave her more than a few hours like that, she needs to be off grass all day and I put her out muzzled at night.
Any more suggestions/tips would be much appreciated :o

Have a grill made for her door that is small squares instead of bars, this way she cant get her hooves through it. Do a google search for metal engineers in your area or ask builder merchants where you can get some square wire sheets and make your own. I have just made a grill for my stable wall and doors to stop my forth coming arrival exiting unplanned. Will take pic later.
