Help, my pup has come into season!

I've got a six month old female pup (booked in to be spayed next week) and she's just come into season today. Eeek!

I have an entire boy at home, she is not interested in boys yet...but give it a couple of days and I know I'm going to have trouble keeping them apart.

I can't have her spayed now she's in season so what should I do...er is their some sort of doggie chastity belt? Do those knicker type things work to stop my boy getting to her...

Oh goodness, I seriously don't want pups out of a six month old bitch. It's Saturday night so I don't really want to call my vet for advice - I will watch them both and make sure nothing happens.

What should I do????
 
Put one in kitchen and one in living room and shut the doors!!

No point risking having them in same room.... it's just not worth it as he will get to her if he and she wants it!! You only have to take your eyes off them for a few seconds!!

KEEP THEM APART - She'll be fine, but she will drive him nuts! Think about asking someone to take the male away for a while, until she's out of season. Nothing will stop a determined male. Good luck
 
Shutting doors properly will certainly stop a determined male - as my mother is a dog breeder we have always had entire males and bitches in season in the same (smallish) bungalow when I was at home, and my mother has never ever had an 'accidental' mating

Obviously it is kind and sensible to keep the dog and bitch apart as far away from each other as possible, but as long as you are meticulous about shutting the doors properly (and if you are not sure, leave a 'vacumn' of an empty room between the rooms the two dogs are in) then you will be fine
 
Put them in different rooms NOW. If that is impossible you'll need to get a good sized crate and keep one of them in it at all times. You can buy suitable crates at most pet shops, especially the larger places such as Pets At home etc.

Often -but certainly not always - first seasons can be short, lasting only a few days instead of the usual three weeks. If things get too difficult you could always send one of the dogs to live with a friend . relative / good boarding kennel for the duration.

If you act quickly there is a drug (norithesterone) that can delay the season but that can't be used indefinitely and she'll probably need to have this season before she can be speyed. The best time to neuter is mid way between seasons, so put a date in your diary three months from now.

As suggested, keep them apart, a crate will help matter, but a determined dog and a desperate bitch could still actually do the deed through the crate

would also if a big enough breed, destroy a door to get to a bitch, I suggest u never leave them in together whether they are seperated

or not, if u really want to 100% stop a possible pregnancy.
Either crate both seperatly or dont leave them, take one with u, or send your dog to a relative.

If an accisent occurs, u can have her injected with a micalience jab, but has to be at the correct day interval, and it will bring her back into season.

You could also have her spayed whilst in pup if an accisent occurs, 4 weeks after she has been caught.

U will now alos have to wait atleast between 9-12 weeks to have her spayed now, because she has come into season.

It can be done, as acolyte suggests, lots of people can keep and entire dog and bitch apart, be vigilant and dont leave them together at all.

Thanks everyone, my girl is used to being crated so I'm thinking that I'll crate her upstairs while the dog is downstairs - we can swap them over every hour or two. If we go out I'll crate them both in seperate rooms with a couple of doors between them...

I guess it's only for three weeks - they'll get over the shock of being kept apart, it's better than having an unplanned litter. The entire boy is only 16 months and unfortunately my OH is relucatant to 'chop em off'...typical man attitude lol.

I can't believe this has happened, she only turned six months last Tuesday and I phoned the vets on the day and made an appointment to have her spayed!
 
I knew somebody who bred Cavaliers. One day, when she had visiting dogowners at home, they see how her very experienced Cavalier stud dog, tries to lure the visiting Rottweiler bitch to stand with her behind infront of a chair that he could come up on... They laughed at him, until he was halfway up the chair and they realised what his next step would be!
