Hi guys

I'm feelng a bit mad and decided that I'm going to take Oscar along to the local show tomorrow to see how he behaves! Thinking that we'll warm up with a small jumping class (2ft) and then go for the working hunter horse....well why not! Jumps are only 2'6"....

So am I right in saying the following is ok:

Oscar:

Plaited mane
pulled tail
Fulmer snaffle and no martingale
No boots
black numnah (he's brown and due to him being slightly cold backed I wouldn't be happy without a numnah though it's only local...?)

Me:

Beige breaches
hacking jacket
Tie (if I can find one!)
Black boots

For our show, just a simple canter and trot figure of 8?

It's only our first show so just want to be correct, but not flashy!

Do i have to gallop in working hunter?

You need to trot straight away and towards your judge and you should show a gallop. They'll usually give you some direction after they look at conformation like "Trot away turn round trot back, trot and canter both reins and a gallop please" I think you can wear boots and martingale for the jumping but need them off for ridden. Have fun!

For individual show you are usually expected to show walk, trot and canter on both reins and also usually an extended canter (gallop) along the long side of the ring.

As for the dress code it sounds like you've got it sorted to me

Good luck and have fun

Horse can wear boots for jumping phase, remove for conformation .second phase. No other tack changes allowed.

Judge might ride, instead of individual show.

If your horse does a neat rein -back you can include
One elderly lady judge galloped our horse on both reins halted then did rein back--she liked him--he won the class, but I was really worried she was pint size but obviously a really good rider, our horse can take a hold!!
Other judges much younger have not been so confident
Our horse had pelham bridle, breast plate with martingale attachment for jumping and show, no boots but you can jump in boots and remove for show as above

Thanks guys.....I've just got back from jumping him in the school and I don't think he'll be fit enough to do the jumping class and then the working hunter. So decided that the less I have to do in the morning, the less upset I'll be if he messes around and we don't get to enter anything. So jumping class it is!

Will be doing working hunter soon so really appreciated x
