I have a 17hh TBxWB coloured, 9 years old for sale. He is lovely. Has no vices. Has the occasional stop show jumping but is lovely natured and would make a great family horse. He has cubed and would love a hunting home. He is advertised on all of the main websites at what I think is a reasonable price. But I have just had no interest. I can count the number of phone calls I have had on one hand!

The only reason I am selling him is because he is to big for me. I persevered with him over the years but my legs simply are not long enough to push the right buttons. I am short so look like a pea on a drum.

I really want him to go to a good home. I have already brought another horse and simply can't afford / justify keeping 2!!! Because I have already brought another horse (and borrowed the money in the interim-oops!), I can't let him go for peanuts!

I assume if I take him to a dealer / sales I would have to take a real cut on the price? Plus, I am welling up at the thought of where he may end up???!!

Does anyone have any suggestions? We are based in Staffordshire? Are there any decent dealers out there that offer the right money? Also, where else can I advertise? He is on horse quest, H&H, horse select, horse mart and horse deals.

A bit of advice would be greatly appreciated!

Try advertising on preloved, if u haven't already, thats where i found my lad.
I suppose weigh up how much extra he costs you to keep for the winter and reduce his price accordingly, this may attract some people who were priced out originally but liked the look of him, of course tho this all depends on how much you have borrowed and how much you have him up for sale for...
Good luck finding him a good home :)

I have just bought a horse and I saw her previous advert so I know I bought her for £2k less than the original price. To get a good response, you need a good photo and preferably a youtube video of your horse doing something clever. A good CV with a detailed description. Finally price the horse sensibly. Unless he can do something really well, he is not going to make strong money. This might sound harsh but you have already got yourself into debt buying his replacement. If you really care about where he goes, price him to sell rather than passing him to a dealer. I only looked at H&H, Horse Deals and HorseQuest. I found HorseMart was full of low priced horses at dealer yards.

We found one of our horses on Preloved too and I am glad we did, word of mouth is a good way is there anyone you may know that could be looking for a horse, or knows someone that is, that way you sort of know where he will be going. Good luck its not the best time to be selling.

Personally from looking at the ad I think he is lovely and I would expect to pay that money for him. Luckily for me he is too big!! Or I would be funding 3 this winter!! I think the problem is anyone actually wanting to buy anything this winter. The hay prices are through the roof and farmers are already holding on to their stock thinking that they will be the only ones with hay after xmas so they can bump the price up. In all honesty I would see how much it will cost you through winter - maybe get a sharer to help with costs and work and then either keep till the Spring and sell or take the winter costs off his selling price.

He is a lovely horse just a shame that it is the wrong time of year and no one has any money.

I did think about phoning re your horse but the statement that said puts in a stop showjumping ruled your horse out. I think you should put up better pictures and an upto date cv of what he has been doing this year, winnings etc and I'm afraid in the current market I think he is just a bit too much money. Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear.
