Hi Guys!!

I have a rather confusing and very annoying problem that i require some help and avise with!!

My horse moved yards about a month ago and a week into the move she started coming out of her stable very stiff in the mornings (her stable is smaller then the one she was previously in.)

My yard owner thinks its her tendons yet there is no heat at all and no swelling in the legs. Once she was walked around a bit she is fine but stiff again in the mornings. Can anyone suggest what it could be and whether it would be worth my while putting her out onto grass so she can be moving around all the time?

Many Thanks

Nikki

It sounds like she is not moving enough in her stable, it may be too small for her to feel she can lie down in also.
I would think it better for her to spend more time out in the field, if she has to come in make sure she is warm enough, maybe put her hay and water in different places so that she moves more during the night and that she has a good bed so she feels safe to lie down.
It is often a case of making changes to find what suits each horse and yours may still be adjusting to her new home.

yeah I have tried all this and putting odwn a full straw bed but i do really think that she needs either a bigger stable or to be turned out 24/7

I think you are right 24/7 turnout or a bigger stable, she is obviously struggling to be comfy in a small box and at 17 may be getting more stiff with age, magnetic boots could help, but being out probably best.

17 is not old!!!! a mere teenager. how big is her stable? yes more turnout will reduce stiffness. was she stabled prior to the move or is the half in half out routine new?

Yeah I know she is still young in my mind but not in the eyes of others! She was stabled but her stable was a lot bigger then this one!
