My friends dog Hugo a 4 year old boxer died on saturday after noon very suddenly. He has had heart problems and did have a name for it but it was still a shock for her as she was up at the horses and he went down but this time didnt get up and was dead instantly.

But the problem is she also has a 6 year old black lab and he is just running round the house looking for him and is really depressed.

Does anybody know what or how to help the poor thing?

Please please help much appreciated.

I'm very sorry for your friend, how sad.

I've no experience with this but in her shoes I would just be doting extra attention on the lab. Lots of walks in different places (where he wouldn't associate going with the boxer),, changes of scenery and try and give him as much company as possible. Maybe a chat with her vet might give her some more ideas? Poor little chap, I'm sure he will get over it soon but must be awful to see

So sorry to hear this. When I lost my old girl 3 years ago I also had her daughter, I let her see her mums body but she still pined terribly. She had been very dependent on her mum and lost all her confidence, her obvious "grief" made ours even worse. To bring her out of her self I started taking her to training classes (at 6 years of age) and it seemed to help and giving her something else to think about. As kibob says if they give the lab lots of walks in different places and perhaps try and teach him something new , hopefully he will get over it before too long.

We have just lost our GSD, which left our bitch, who was lost without him. I started taking her up the stables with me, ignoring the incontinance in the car! She seemed a bit better playing with other dogs so we bought another pup. She still looks for him, even when we went away last week I'm sure she expected him to pop out. I think it takes time and you need to keep them busy. Such a shame when it happens.x

It sounds daft but it's one of the reasons I got my 3rd, so I would never be left with just one as it must be so sad for them. Of course god only knows why I got numbers 4 and 5
