Some regular posters will know I lost my bulldog in January and I've slowly started looking around for my next options but I'm stumped as to what to go for next.

Now bulldogs are my breed and I'll always hanker after one but having just had my bullmastiff i've realised how much longer and further I can walk with her so my choices are,

Another bulldog
Another bullmastiff
A miniture EBT
A border terrier or and I never thought i'd say this but i've seen a chichihua i'm rather taken with.

Rather diverse I know. I do love the bullbreeds though.

Any thoughts re personality compatibility.

The other thing is that i'm not sure to go with a new puppy or a rescue a little older for my girl to play with now. I wouldn't take on a rescue bulldog though as I think these are better brought up from a puppy, some can be quite 'full on' when older and knowing what my previous one was like I wouldn't do it.

Anyone with experience of these breeds know which would suit my girl the best. She is a big soppy and would accept anything I think.

Its the only bullbreed I don't like unfortunately.

oh thats a shame as unfortunately there is a pretty wide choice of these dogs. Out of interest is it the way they look or the bad reputation they have gained with crap owners? Not going to be pushy but I do try to fly the flag of reclaiming the staffie as a proper country terrier not a trophy for some backstreet idiot with no sense, brains or strength of their own.

Actually its the look of them. I know they have a reputation but as you say that is only through the morons who own them. My parents have one and he is a lovely pied dog, very well bred and cost a lot of money from a well established breeder, not like some of these thin street looking type ones, but he just doesn't do anything for me.

I'm also liking the french bullies so I guess i'm very narrow in my choices, I will prob follow my heart and go for another bully but whether its a mastiff or smallie I've yet to decide.

Most of the breeds you've mentioned come into rescue, esp bull mastiffs or first crosses. Just keep your eyes open, register interest at local reputable rescues and keep visiting...you bet your life the right dog will turn up. Most likely it will be none of the breeds mentioned and totally not your 'type' but certainly will be a grateful dog who'll give you years of companionship!!;)

My type of dog is big scruffy full of energy but well behaved...out of my 6 only 1 is what I really really want from a dog..the rest are a mad mixture of small and medium mutts, terriers and lurchers and all are fantastic and I wouldn't change them for the world...even if the rescues would let me bring them back!! Lol!!

Boston terrier! More energy than a Bullie, but the same loving and devoted disposition.

Frenchies are neat little dogs, too, though I was put off by the lesser athletic ability and shorter life span (8-10 years as opposed to 12-15 for a Boston).

I've had two English bullies and I love them, but they do tend to retire at about 5 or 6 then spend the rest of their days laying around farting :D my last boy was 13yrs when he went.
My latest addition is a Bouvier de Flandres he's a big teddy bear and sooo intelligent; compared to my other dogs. It really is personal preferences.

Ah but the mini BT is like a super charged lap sized (just) version on steroids. It is a brainey, funny, sensitive dog ..they don`t "retire" ,my Deliah is still super charged as a twelve year old matron.
Be prepared to wait for one from decent bloodlines and health checked parentage as well. The £700 jobbies on EPupz are NOT the ones to go for,the really good long lived ones with great personality are usually around £1200. Just been to a birthday party for one of mine..his fourteenth, cake with sparklers on it,the lot.
If you choose a mini you will never have another bull breed ..they top them for charm and vitality hands down.
