I have used my Heiniger with 120w motor (I think they are the heavy duty version - similar to the Handy) for several years with no problem but last year they started to struggle with my very hairy native! I thought it was the blades so bought a new pair but they still aren't right. They clip great then just refuse to clip and seem to just come to a halt but the motor still runs! Just not sure whether to have them repaired or to invest in new pair. Has anyone else had this problem and if so did you fix it? I tried the tension but makes no difference! The worst areas are the belly and neck!

I actually had the same problem with my liveryman clippers

tried two set of newly sharpened blades, wouldn't clip
bought new blades still wouldn't go through the coat

sent clippers for a service, they reported no faults found, tried again, still wouldn't clip!

so I visited the servicing man, all 3 sets of blades were totally blunt, even the brand new ones! he sharpened them all and as if by magic the clippers worked again!

There are some little rubber bushes and springs inside mine which my OH replaced, so it may be worth sending them for repair and getting a quote to fix them.

I wondered about blades as you hope new ones would be fine but I would imagine hairy ponies blunt them quite quickly! Good idea about replacing old parts as would be cheaper than new ones. Just hope they still do parts for my model as looks like handy but must be older version. They are strange as clip perfectly then suddenly stop clipping but motor sounds fine.

Hi, Heinigar clippers have always been my favourite. From an Engineers point of view, they give very little trouble and are good to work on. From your comments, you have been using them fine until they started giving you grief?

Firstly, is this a new horse that you have purchased? Or the same one you have clipped before?

Secondly, you purchased some "New" blades. Did they come in a Heinigar packet? and were they stamped with Heinigar?

Has anything else about your clipping regime changed? I know this sounds a dim question, but the majority of problems occur when something changes. IE: Different clipper oil. New bloke sharpening your blades, new horse with a different coat ETC.

Just a couple of other possible causes. When you put the blades on, the top (small) blade, sits on two little metal points. Check these for wear. Second, if you look inside the head, you will see two sets of spring arms. They are laminated springs, with if I remember three leaves in each. Look closely and check none are cracked. Thirdly, under the small blade when fitted,is a small square block, that sits on a spinning steel pin. Is the block there? If the block has come adrift, the machine will be noisy and not clip. Last but not least, with the blades fitted, and the tension applied, do the blades move ok. Sometimes,a jam can cause the drive gear in the head to strip. When under light tension, the blades will move.As soon as you apply more tension, they may stop moving and you will hear a high pitched noise. Apart from that, who sharpens your blades? PM Me if you want some more advice.
