Crikey that's going a bit far - is this gelding the horse equivalent of Brad Pitt? I have a stroppy mare when she is in season too, though nowhere near that bad, and have had no luck with herbal remedies - the only thing that worked was to put her in foal, she was OK for several years after that. Not really an option for you though at 26! look forward to what other people reccommend.

yep he is the brad pitt of horses very pretty for a gelding she only likes the pretty ones tho and he is her man, his owner says she's dreading summer as my mare wont leave him in peace, and yes she does go too far and we have to walk away when their 2gether as its disgusting

My mare used to be like this with a gelding when she was in season, and the only thing tht would touch her was valerian. I know it is not competition legal, but I tried everything else including Regumate!

I eventually moved off the yard for other reasons, but she was totally different once away from him and being turned out with other mares. But the valerian worked!

My little old mare is like this. She's permanently in season, Im not kidding. Well, she only seems to go into season if I put a boy near her! If I let her out with the 2 "hotty" geldings (the 2 she really fancies), she instantly starts squirting everywhere and reversing into them. She's never had a foal either, but she's been like this since a 3yo! I think some mares are simply more slutty than others (like in the human world I guess!)

I got mine from the feed merchant's wife who is a herbalist. They do it at Robinsons but it is much weaker than the type I used on Hannah... the best thing to do is go to a herbalist (look one up in the yellow pages) and ask them to make you some up for a horse. I used 30ml for three days (just in feed), then 20ml for 7 days and then kept her on a constant 15ml which was upped to 20 again if she had a strong season.

These amounts were given to me by the feed merchant as he knew my horse and the problems I was having with her... I can't remember the strength they made it up to, but it was quite strong and for 1 litre it was £30.

Oh, my mare is 16.2hh IDxTB... but I would still do the amounts said to get it into her system (feed merchant seemed to think this was suitable for horses over 14.2hh as a friend used it too on her 15hh TBxArab when he was on box rest) but then you might be able to keep her on 10ml as opposed to 15ml daily once the first week is over.

I had a similar problem with my 21 year old mare and luckily because I have my own facilities I choose to get rid of the gedlings and have a mares only yard.

This has worked wonderfully well and I have since never looked back and would never and I mean never have gedlings with my mares ever again.

my mare used to escape into the rigs field and then comando crawls (on her knees!!!) under electric fencing to the other gelding. well had to move her off that yard cause i kept getting told off because of her antics. I have a field and have put a very pretty welsh secD in with her she backs into him sprays at him and he just walks away hasn't got a clue what she wants him to do how ever when i take her away from him he jumps my 4ft electric fence then my 5 bar gate so that his is stuck to her side she now can't stand him and tries to get away from him so funny now the tables have turned he has never mounted her or anything like that i think he sees her as his mummy to be honest hes very imature but both of them are the same age. Good luck i will never understand the beastys lol

If herbal stuff fails then speak to your vet about putting on on regumate.

Its not cheap but a pony at my yard is on and as she is so bad in season it affects the others horses.

Try herbal first but if it doesnt work your vet may let you have regumate and it will work.

One more suggestion... get her a mirror!!!

My young mare is very attached to my other mare and whenever the latter is removed the young mare goes potty. Or a least she did until I bought her a mirror from Amigo mirrors (very recommended)
