Not sure, one of my aunts danes is in breeders name on paperwork but she has recipts to say she has brought him.
He went back to breeder for stud duities for a few years, so far as I knwo because she has "proof of purchase" she could have asked for him back at any time and was always his owner.
So I think unless breeder has something to say dog was signed over to her (even if it was returned and not brought back) then origanal owner would still own him.
That's what I would have assumed too. As soon as I buy my dogs I change the ownership details immediately.
Not sure what would legally happen in the situation above though; I presume the owner giving the dog back to the breeder would then mean that the breeder owns the dog. Same as with rescue centres - if you give your dog to a rescue centre and then change your mind you have to buy the dog back again.

But you have to sign documents to say dog/cat/whatever is now property of the rescue center dont you?
All very confusing- moral is get ALL documents in your name ASAP!
