Hello everyone,

I need a little bit of help. There is little research in sport psychology about riders and for my degree i am researching the coping strategies and emotional responses riders go through after an injury. If you compete in eventing, dressage or showjumping and had an injury that has disrupted any form of competing could you please please please go to this link http://freeonlinesurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=fnukm46b5ccm7he235670 (you might have to copy and paste it). I really do want to make researchers look more into riding to improve our sport. A sport psychologist in Holland is helping with this.
The online editor said it was ok to put this up.
Thank you in anticipation

Think I've done it but not sure. Wasan't sure which injury to talk about !!

I started to fill it out this morning, but gave up.. I was then thinking about it while riding out!!

I felt there were too many questions asking how you felt (in your head) at various stages of the injury/recovery... The thing is, after the initial fall (or however it is you hurt yourself) your first thought is, how bad have i hurt myself? i feel i'm pretty good at knowing when something is 'not' right, or when it 'just' hurts, as i guess are most people who've fallen off alot.. After that, you just kinda get on with things.. it's all part of life in the saddle, and i try not to think about it! these things happen (if you get what i mean)

One other thing i would say.. i'm guessing i'm not alone in rushing back after an injury.. when i did my ACL, i was ment to have 6 months off, i was back riding after 3 weeks!.. fracture to right lower leg, (didn't require plaster or anything) so back riging a week later!!
The only thing i did have proper time off for (and it's a really silly injury

) was when a horse stood on my big toe, and took the whole nail clean off.. i couldn't ride, cos i couldn't get a shoe on my foot for about 2 weeks!!

So yeah.. i think keeping horsey people in "recovery time" for long enough is the hard part!!

I had a go and managed to answer all the questions but not sure if correctly. My injury had 8 stages over about 5 years so it was a bit difficult to place everything in time and space;)
BTW - it's very chaotic as I am work doing 100 other things lol

Thank you for filling it in so far the data i have collected has been fantastic. The intention of the survey is to examine the way we deal psychologically with an injury. As we know being riders we have to overcome many barriers mentally to ride. The majority of us could say that we ride with our mind we think it and it happens. Looking at the psychology of an injury is new research in sport and i really am trying to understand how we as riders cope with it when we have such a unique relationship with a horse and we can't stop due to an injury as they still need caring for. Thank you very much for taking the time to complete the survey. Charlotte
