I need help when I am riding in a dressage saddle!!

When I am riding in a jumping saddle I am fine, however soon as I ride in a dressage saddle things start to go wrong

!!

My problem is I can not ride long! when I do ride long I tend to tilt forward

, as soon as I jack them up to jumping length I ride so much better, however I look very silly riding this short in a dressage saddle

!!

How can I stop this from happening?? does this happen to anyone else
confused.gif
or am I the only one!!

The thing is I have a few Dressage comps coming up in which I will be riding in a dressage saddle, and I really need help with this!

Answers on a post card please!

Get Gilly to lunge you on him with no stirrups.

Its true, you looked very uncomfortable in my dressage saddle.

I think you need to rely less on your stirrups and think of sitting up tall.

Also putting a stick behind your back - ive got a dvd you can watch

sheer pain, but it works lol

How was SofE?
Did you get a sun tan??

It sounds like you are used to gripping with your knees, so when you ride long your knees are forced away from the saddle. I always finding some lessons without stirrups helps, along with exercises like bringing one knee up towards you, turn it outwards and strech all the way down. You need to strengthen your inner thigh.

Though I haven't seen you ride, so that all might be rubbish!

My Mum struggles to ride long. When she has a dressage lesson, she has found that riding without stirrups for 10 minutes or so helps her to lengthen her leg, so when she puts them back in the stirrups again they feel way too short...could be worth a go?..

O ok thanks for that!! I will ask her in the week if she can do that.

Yes I tend to put all my weight into my heel and I have really noticed that riding Ren! he is verrrrrrrrrry lazy! and you need to go through a pain barrier with him before he starts going nice, but when he goes he goes and its lovely..
I am going to have the best legs out soon!!! I have never ridden a horse that needs so much leg LOL

SOE well Gilly left the yard at 5.00am so her bloke went! I would of had to leave home at 4.30! G did very well she was 5th after dressage then had 2 down in the SJ, will be in the top ten.. Police pulled her over on the way back and the lorry had to be weighed, she was glad she only had one horse

I think riding without stirrups is a great idea. Sounds like you need to OPEN your hips, take your knee off and let your leg hang lower with your calves against horse's sides. I think you are too closed with your hips/knee??

You are so right with the knee thing - I have a really bad habbit of gripping with my knee

...
The toruble is the jumping saddle I have on him has really big knee roles for my horrible knees to go in!

A basic - also check that your dressage saddle is sitting level and not tipping you forward.

I do it all the time in what ever dressage saddle I ride in, but thank you for your advice

Flippen heck, good job she only had one horse on, and probably a lot less water on board too lol

YAY great results for G then. she must be delighted.

R is more lazy than Winnie

NOT POSSIBLE Lol

Ifyou get G to lunge you you can then concentrate on your position. The dvd is good, worth watching, slightly boring... but its def helped me working on my own at home.
Watch it when J is out tho or he will be REALLY bored lol

We'll go out for supper soon and i will bring it iwth me
