Please excuse my ignorance but I haven't hunted since I was a child and someone else did the organising back then!!!

A group of us from Dorset would like to go hunting for the day to give our showjumpers a break from coloured poles and a bit of fun!!

I know a few of the local hunts in the Dorset/ Hampshire/ Wiltshire area: The New Forest, The Portman, The Wilton, The Hursley, The South Dorset, The Cattistock.

Can anyone recommend any in particular? We will be taking a couple of young horses and a couple of older ones. My only thought is perhaps the New Forest will be quite flat/ boggy? We would like some jumping, hills and gallops!!!!

Also how do I go about finding when the meet dates/ locations are? Do I need to buy a meet card or contact the secretary? I think the cap is about £50, does this sound about right?

Many Thanks

This link is the official directory - it splits hunts by county and most then have a decent description of their country and the jumping it provides.

If you contact the secretary - a number is usually provided on each listing they will be able to supply you with details of a suitable meet, the cap, parking etc.

I fear the caps have largely risen since you last hunted. I guess average is nearer to £60, but I have just paid £80 for a day's autumn stag hunting with the Devon & Somerset and some of the premier packs like the Quorn can be up to £140 for an undiscounted day in their top country.
