I have to do a PowerPoint on boots for college, we're just learning about different boots for horses, I manage to find most boots on google apart from "covering boots"? I cant find about about their fit, material used or advantages or disadvantages. Any help will be appreciated.

Covering boots are fitted to the hind hooves of mares when they are being mated (covered). They are usually made of thick felt or other such material, and are placed over the whole hoof (the mare kind of steps into each boot) and then fitted with a buckle around the fetlock. They are used to try and prevent injury to the stallion should the mare kick out. They're not used in any other setting, so as long as they stay on the mare's hind feet and don't slop about too much when she moves then that's fine.

I don't know of any websites I'm afraid, just my experience working as a stud groom. Pro's are that it helps prevent injury to the stallion during covering. Kind of a one-size-fits-all boot, so the stud doesn't need more than one or two pairs.

Con's - if the boots are too big then they can twist around the mare's hoof and potentially either cause her to trip or they can come off. The boots don't eliminate the risk of injury to the stallion. Some mares don't tolerate them (similar to how some don't tolerate wearing travel boots).
