Hi
Im having bother riding my horse on the right rein. No matter what i do she bends a tiny bit to the left even on the straight side of the school . Im making sure im am sitting straight, legs all in the right places but she pays no attention. What sort of exercises do you suggest that might help. She gets cross and nappy when i ask her to behave.
She is very young and i really dont want this to become a habit. She just keeps falling in.

If you have ruled out any physical reason for her doing this, then I would work on doing looks of circles, loops and changes of rein. Also doing counter bend can help to straighten a horse.

i'd get her teeth, back and saddle checked, and if they're all fine, then try gentle circles, figures of 8, all in walk, just suggesting inside bend to her. contra-bending is also useful for gently tricking them into bending the way you want, not the way they want! gentle leg-yielding from about 2m out back to the track is also a good one to teach her to move away from the inside leg and listen to you.
best of luck! how old is "very young", btw?

Thanks for the advise. The vet is coming this week for jabs so i am getting her all checked out then . i will try your suggestions too.
Well very young is three - four in a couple of months.

Its probably more that she is falling through her shoulder rather than wanting to give you a left bend! try riding her in a shoulder fore position but make sure your shoulders are also mirroring her shoulders and not the other way round when you are doing shoulder fore! try it up the long side to see if it improves. The reason a lot of horses offer outside bend when going around the arena is because they don't like to get their quarters too close to the fence, if you get someone to lead her up the long side or ride her you will probably notice she is actually working on three tracks rather than foot fall into 2 tracks as normal. Common cause of this can be if a horse has brushed/caught their hip on the fence this then makes them cautious about tracking close to the fence. Hope this is of some help to you!
