my horse never wind sucks or crib bites normally, or does anything else, but he really loves it when i scratch his withers/back and the bottom of his neck
when i do this, he really gets into it, and if i stop follows me round for more, once or twice getting quite rude and nearly pushing me over trying to encourage me to do it again
the other day i was doing it and he walked foward and grapped the stable door with his teeth and twisted his neck slightly .. until i pulled him away
can anyone tell me if this is windsucking or something else and how can it be stopped .. as far as i know he doesnt do it normally..

Sounds to me as though he is grooming the door. Because you are doing it to him it stimulates him to do it back.

Windsucking is when they arch thier necks and take in gulps of air, sounds like burping.

Cribing is when they bite doors and posts etc....

Windsucking is often accomapanied by cribing. The horse gulps in air while holding onto the door, post etc...

I have a cribing wind sucker at home.

I would just think your horse is enjoying a good scratch.

Sounds more like he is grooming the door - my pony loves being scratched and he normally turns his neck around and grooms me (usually my bum) in return, but if I'm out of reach he'll groom anything in front of him whether it be the wall, a door, etc.
