okay, so ive got an expolo horse that has chipped his sesamoid bone, and theres a bit of bone flowting around in the soft tissue. - if he had an operation to get it removed, would it be worth it? - Would he be fine after he had time off + lots of resting time? would he be okay to jump/compete?

any experiences like this? HELP!!! ?

Is he insured??If yes you havnt anything to lose!Have you had a good long chat with your vet??Surely he is best placed to advise on his recovery and later soundness if you went ahead with the op??
I realise you are just trying to get peoples experience of this,i would do the same, but what did the vet say to you??

yes he's insured in group 3, riding competeing ect..

yet sed, see how he goes. he had 3months box rest, then walking out for a month, last week started turning him out, and his leg seems to be OK, and i was riding him out at work, i was with a friend and he deicieded to gallop off, she sed he looked sound, and looks sound in the feild.

Vet sed, see how things go, if it repairs he shld be fine, though if it doesnt he wont be able to jump again. -
if the bones removed them it might not make a difference!
So, im unsure on what to do :S

Hmmmm, think what you have to think about is the insurance will write it off after a yr,if they know about it,however if you leave it longer and try claim for the op they will see past treatment details from vet saying that he was already treated for it

,and you will have to declare that he has had treatment other than routine jabs etc when you renew it after the yr!
Personally i would have a chat with vet again, could be worth doing to rule it out whilst it is covered

If he stays sound fab,if he dosnt you know you have done what you can to try and right the problem!

When did you get the horse? If he was insured before the condition came about yes? When were the x-rays done?

You should be fine..speak to vet asap as it will have to be on their recommendation to operate and remove the loose bone

,explain your concern with regards the insurance and that you would like the chip removed to remove any doubt about his soundness and that you need to inform the insurance company asap(ie:if it removed and he dosnt come right it cannot be blamed on a loose fragment of bone),see what he says and, also try get a rough guide to price and see if you are covered for that amount as ops on horses are far from cheap!
